Hellen Martin Born in Eden, TX, with a heritage of French, Irish, Comanche, & Blackfoot, Hellen’s love for American Indian, Southwest, lodge, wildlife, and western art just naturally developed over the years. Married for 39 years, mother of three grown children, grandmother to one grandson, & being able to do her passion (art) she considers herself blessed. She left the corporate world in 2002 as an AVP/Mgr. in the finance world to pursue that passion. Hellen’s art is mainly prepared on gourds. Having won numerous awards in painting, coiling (pine needles & coil wrapping), Indian beading, woodburning, & carving on gourds have helped promote her art in California, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, & Texas. Since she pays such close attention to details and authenticity, her work is also purchased by collectors. Her art has found homes throughout the US & have been featured in newspapers, books, & magazines. Her work can be seen in galleries, fine art/craft shows, SW/American Indian/Western shows, and invited gallery shows/competitions. Hellen is a board member of the Texas Gourd Society and serves on several committees. She is also a member of the American Gourd society and American Indian Chamber of Commerce of Texas. She has written booklets and teaches private or classroom lessons. She and her husband presently live in Grapevine, TX.
